Dorisa Parker
Dorisa Parker is a native of Greensboro, NC. She began her professional career at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1999. After completing her bachelor’s degree, she was employed as a residential counselor in a group home for teenage boys who were classified as youth sex offenders and others with behavioral and personality disorders. She was later employed as a Guilford County Schools Exceptional Children’s middle school teacher and as a case manager for youth with learning disabilities and other health impairments.
In 2016, after beginning her master’s degree in Mental Health Clinical Counseling at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, she was employed as a qualified professional for adult group homes serving adults with mild to severe developmental disabilities proving case management, developing residential and supervised living goals for progress monitoring. Upon completing her master’s degree in 2018, she was employed by Family Service of the Piedmont where she completed her internship and served as an outpatient mental health therapist and clinical addictions specialist. She provided outpatient individual therapy for adults and children dealing with trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, substance use and other mental health disorders. She facilitated the Seeking Safety group, an evidence-based treatment that helps individuals with trauma, posttraumatic stress disorder, and substance misuse. She also facility parenting classes to help parents navigate helping parenting, parenting styles and effective discipline.
In May of 2021, Dorisa founded and opened her private clinical counseling practice, The Authentic Process, PLLC. She provides clinical mental health and substance use services for individuals, couples, and families. Returning to her love for education, she began teaching at Greensboro College as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology in Fall 2021. She joined the fulltime faculty of Greensboro College as an Assistant Professor of Psychology in Fall 2022.
Dorisa also serves as the Outreach Pastor at Equation Church in Greensboro, NC where she was ordained in April 2019. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Education degree in Community Care and Counseling with a Traumatology cognate at Liberty University. Dorisa is passionate about educating her students, helping individuals and families in crisis as she believes it is her purpose to educate others concerning mental health, reach the lost and lead them to holistic healing of their mind, body and soul through her career and her ministry.
