PAWS Orientation Preparation

PAWS: Preparing, Advising, & Welcoming Students

PAWS is a one-day, new student orientation program during the summer where incoming students register for classes and learn about campus and academic life at Greensboro College. This is their first opportunity to get involved on campus, connect with current and incoming students, and meet faculty and staff. PAWS is also a time for families to complete paperwork and ask me questions related to financial aid, student accounts, and health services. You will have your schedule created before your PAWS date and an opportunity to discuss it with an academic advisor that day.

How to Prepare

Make sure you’ve sent in final official transcripts from any college or university where you have completed coursework. This includes courses taken through an early college or high school program. It’s a good idea to also bring a copy of those transcripts with you to show academic advisors during the advising and registration portion of the day.  This will help us create the most accurate and efficient course schedule for you.

  1. Go to the Pride Page and select 1st tab – Steps To Enroll.
  2. Under Getting Ready, select PAWS Family Member Fee.
  3. Select your number of guests.
  4. Click submit payment, and it will take you to the payment screen.
  5. Once you submit your payment, it will automatically go on your record and our Student Accounts office will be notified.

What to Wear

It will be hot outside; we’ll keep it nice and cool indoors. We recommend dressing in layers and bringing an umbrella in case of a summer shower.

Be prepared for a photo. Students will be taking their Pride Card (student ID) picture in the morning.

Documents

Make sure you’ve sent in final official transcripts from any college or university where you have completed coursework or bring them with you. This includes courses taken through an early college or high school program.

If you have questions about your immunizations or health insurance requirements, you’re welcome to bring those documents with you.

“I loved the GC Honors program and Greensboro College. I felt safe and a sense of genuine belonging at the college. I worked closely with my thesis advisor and professors who helped inspire me to define my path and passion of interest. That path has led me to my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.”

- Joshua Fitzgerald, Class of ’19, Mathematics Major

Joshua currently studies astrodynamics at Virginia Tech University and is an Engineering Mechanics Ph.D. Candidate.
