Catherine Gold (Cathy)
Cathy is an instructor in health sciences and kinesiology while pursuing her Doctorate of Education in Kinesiology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Cathy has completed two master’s degrees: one in nursing and another in sport and exercise science, with a concentration in health and human performance. She holds numerous professional certifications including American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Exercise Physiologist and Personal Trainer and is a National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. She also achieved Nutritional Therapy Practitioner certification through the Nutritional Therapy Association (NTA). As an entrepreneur, Cathy has offered fitness training and nutritional counseling services to clients across the country. She worked closely with functional medicine practitioners to provide nutritional counseling to accommodate various dietary needs and served as an Exercise is Medicine consultant over the years. She is passionate about sharing the benefits of healthy lifestyle choices and its impact on overall wellbeing. Her array of experiences in both healthcare and fitness bring unique and valuable insight into her classrooms. Her graduate thesis explored the effect of nutrition and leisure time physical activity on mental health indicators in college students. In her doctoral work, Cathy is investigating innovative teaching methods as they affect student athletes, and she hopes to continue to advance Greensboro College’s strategic plan to enhance learning and student success.
