Greensboro College Appoints Faye Simon to Mathematics Faculty
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College has appointed Faye Simon to the mathematics faculty as an assistant professor.
Simon also will serve as coordinator of the college’s mathematics support program. That program is being made possible by a five-year, $1.93 million federal Title III grant from the U.S. Department of Education to support the college’s degree-completion program.
That program seeks to increase rates of persistence and graduation among traditional undergraduate students, with particular focus on low-income, first-generation students. Title III grants are intended to help colleges and universities serve low-income students.
Before coming to Greensboro College, Simon served as a lecture assistant, teaching assistant and instructor of record, as well as a graduate student research assistant, in the Department of Mathematics at North Carolina State University.
She also was a semester participant at Brown University’s Institute for Computation and Experimental Research in Mathematics in Fall 2018.
She has published peer-reviewed papers in Linear Algebra and Its Applications and in Involve: A Journal of Mathematics and made presentations of those papers not only at N.C. State but also at Georgia Tech, Brown, and Temple University.
In the community, she has served as lead organizer of the 2017 Triangle Area Graduate Student Mathematics Conference, treasurer of the Mathematics Graduate Student Association, and a volunteer for “BugFest: Math Doesn’t Bug Me!,” a program produced by the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh.
She holds a B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. in mathematics, all from N.C. State University.
