Greensboro College Awards 2018-2019 Moore Professorship to Allison Palmadessa ’03
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College has named Allison Palmadessa ’03, associate professor of history, its Moore Professor for 2018-2019.
Palmadessa was cited in particular for her most recent book, “American National Identity: Policy, Paradigms, and Higher Education,” which has been hailed by scholars for “taking the study of higher education in bold new directions.”
In addition, she was recognized not only for her teaching both regular and Honors courses but also for coordinating social-studies teacher licensure and supervising teacher-education candidates. She also chaired the Faculty Affairs Committee in 2017-2018.
Palmadessa holds a B.A. from Greensboro College and M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She joined the faculty in 2014.
The Moore Professor Award is presented annually at Commencement to a member of the college’s full-time faculty for the subsequent academic year. It recognizes an outstanding accomplishment or set of accomplishments, such as the publication of a scholarly work, the creation or performance of an artistic work, meritorious service to the college, or recognition by a professional organization.
The award was established in 1971 by the late Annie Elizabeth Moore ’27 in honor of George Edgar Moore and Minnie Moore. The recipient is selected by a committee chaired by the president of the college and including the three most recent recipients of the award and three students.
