Greensboro College Chaplain Speaks at Youth Religious Conference (4/6/2017)

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Rev. Dr. Robert Brewer, Greensboro College chaplain, spoke at the recent Summit youth retreat, sponsored by the Western N.C. Conference of the United Methodist Church.

About 150 high-school and middle-school students attended the program, whose theme was “In the Shadow of Giants.” The weekend messages talked about confronting and addressing the giants that keep people fearful, immobilized, and depressed.

The final session inspired the youth to be light in a world full of shadows and giants.

Brewer, who also holds a faculty appointment as assistant professor of religion, received his B.A. from Appalachian State University, his M.Div. from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, and his Th.D. from the University of Toronto. He joined the college in 2005.

Greensboro College provides a liberal arts education grounded in the traditions of the United Methodist Church and fosters the intellectual, social, and, spiritual development of all students while supporting their individual needs.

Founded in 1838 and located in downtown Greensboro, the college enrolls about 1,000 students from 29 states and territories, the District of Columbia, and seven foreign countries in its undergraduate liberal-arts program and four master’s degree programs. In addition to rigorous academics and a well-supported Honors program, the school features an 18-sport NCAA Division III athletic program and dozens of service and recreational opportunities.

“I loved the GC Honors program and Greensboro College. I felt safe and a sense of genuine belonging at the college. I worked closely with my thesis advisor and professors who helped inspire me to define my path and passion of interest. That path has led me to my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.”
