Greensboro College Extends President Lawrence D. Czarda’s Contract to 2024
May 16, 2018
GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Greensboro College Board of Trustees unanimously approved a four-year extension of the president’s contract from June 30, 2020, to June 30, 2024, at its May 11 meeting.
Lawrence D. Czarda, Ph.D., assumed the presidency of the 180-year-old college in 2010, in the turbulent years following the Great Recession, and led the college back to stable operations and solid credentials with its accrediting bodies.
“Our small, liberal-arts college in the heart of Greensboro offers a unique learning environment for students,” said Board Chair Kevin Green ’78 of Greensboro. “Despite the challenges that all small, liberal-arts colleges tackle daily, Dr. Czarda’s leadership not only has enabled Greensboro College to achieve financial balance, but also has positioned this college to be relevant into the future as we plan toward our 200th anniversary in 2038.”
The college has achieved stable operations and exceeded the fundraising goals prescribed in the GC2020 Strategic Plan, of which Czarda was the guiding force. The decision to extend his contract came after the president’s annual performance evaluation; each of the assessment metrics is tied directly to the goals set through the GC2020 Strategic Plan.
The Board of Trustees expressed support and gratitude to Czarda and his wife, Dr. Carolyn Chappell, for their continued commitment, passion and loyalty to Greensboro College.
Czarda holds a B.A. from Bridgewater College, an M.P.A. from The American University, and a Ph.D. from George Mason University. He took office in 2010 as the 18th president of Greensboro College. He also holds a faculty appointment as professor of public administration.
Greensboro College provides a liberal arts education grounded in the traditions of the United Methodist Church and fosters the intellectual, social, and, spiritual development of all students while supporting their individual needs.
Founded in 1838 and located in downtown Greensboro, the college enrolls about 1,000 students from 29 states and territories, the District of Columbia, and seven foreign countries in its undergraduate liberal-arts program and four master’s degree programs. In addition to rigorous academics and a well-supported Honors program, the school features an 18-sport NCAA Division III athletic program and dozens of service and recreational opportunities.
