Greensboro College Men’s Golf to Compete in Tournament Town Championships Preview
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men’s golf team will be among 18 top NCAA Division III teams competing in the 2017 Tournament Town Championship Preview Sept. 23-25 at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro.
The field includes 11 of the top 15 finishers in the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships in May, including the Pride, who finished tied for fourth, and crosstown rival Guilford College’s Quakers, the national runners-up.
Grandover will host the 2018 NCAA Championships May 15-18.
“This is perhaps the strongest field assembled since 2010, when the concept of staging an elite early-season tournament at the NCAA Championships site was introduced,” said Kim Strable, president of the Greensboro Sports Commission, which serves as co-host of the Preview along with institutional host Guilford College.
“With only 10 strokes separating the top five teams at a 72-hole NCAA golf championship, we have the opportunity in September to recreate that competitive drama at Grandover, providing a glimpse of what we will likely experience next May.”
The Pride men won national championships in 2000 and 2011, the latter at Grandover, and are expected to be competitive again in 2017-18.
Founded in 1989, the Greensboro Sports Commission was created to foster economic development through coordinating and developing Greensboro’s role as a leading site for sports events involving youth, collegiate, amateur and professional organizations.
Greensboro College provides a liberal arts education grounded in the traditions of the United Methodist Church and fosters the intellectual, social, and, spiritual development of all students while supporting their individual needs.
Founded in 1838 and located in downtown Greensboro, the college enrolls about 1,000 students from 29 states and territories, the District of Columbia, and seven foreign countries in its undergraduate liberal-arts program and four master’s degree programs. In addition to rigorous academics and a well-supported Honors program, the school features an 18-sport NCAA Division III athletic program and dozens of service and recreational opportunities.
