Greensboro College Moves All Classes Online Beginning March 23; Students Must Leave Campus

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College has moved all Spring 2020 classes online or to other alternative delivery methods to limit campus exposure to the coronavirus.

The change takes effect Monday, March 23. The college is on spring break through Sunday, March 22.

“This was a difficult decision, but guidance from the CDC with respect to the spread of COVID-19 left us with little choice,” spokesman Lex Alexander said.

All college offices will remain open, although hours and staffing of some may vary depending upon employee availability.

Students have received instructions regarding retrieving belongings and vacating the residence halls. No students will be permitted to remain on campus.

College officials have made no decision regarding the Baccalaureate/Cap & Gown Ceremony and Commencement May 8-9, but all other public events on campus this semester are cancelled.

“This obviously is not how we wanted to have to finish the semester, and we are particularly sympathetic to the Class of 2020, whose final semester here is being so disrupted,” Alexander said. “But all colleges and universities are being affected by COVID-19, and our decision is the same that institutions statewide and nationwide are making.

“It also is consistent with public-health guidance and with our desire to think critically, act justly, and live faithfully: Our first concern is the health and well-being of every student, our faculty and staff, and the larger public.”
