Greensboro College School of Business Presents Talk, “Building a Positive Spiritual Self-Image,” March 13
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro College’s School of Business presents a talk by Dr. Shawn Hocker, “Building a Positive Spiritual Self-Image,” as part of its Leadership Fitness course at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, in 214 Proctor Hall East on campus.
The event is free and open to the public. Free parking is available behind the college’s Admissions Welcome Center at West Market Street and College Place.
The talk is based on a chapter of the same name in the book “Leadership Fitness” by Homer Rice, the longtime NCAA football coach and athletic director.
Hocker has practiced orthopedics with Emerge Ortho PA in Wilmington, N.C., since 2006 and has served as the practice’s Wilmington division president since 2015. He also is a member of the practice’s executive board.
He has concentrated his research in developing orthopedic prosthetics, particularly those for the knee and hip.
He holds a B.S. in biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.
While an undergraduate, he was a varsity wrestler for UNC before joining the football team, achieving all-ACC honors in 1992 and 1993 and being named a football All American by the Sporting News. He played one year of football professionally for the San Diego Chargers in 1994.
He completed his orthopedic-surgery residency at Duke University Medical Center from 2000 to 2005 and then held a one-year fellowship in sports medicine and adult reconstruction at the University of Utah before entering private practice.
