Greensboro College Staffer Will Present Paper on Universal Design for Learning at International Convention
Aug. 14, 2018
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgieann Bogdan, Greensboro College’s director of academic accessibility and an adjunct instructor, will present a paper during an international conference Oct. 30-Nov. 2 in Dublin, Ireland.
Bogdan’s paper, “Greensboro College: A Model of UDL in the Curriculum,” describes the college’s efforts to incorporate Universal Design for Learning, an educational approach intended to recognize and accommodate different learning styles.
The paper covers the college’s work during the past several years to make UDL the framework for successful academic and student development. It is one of three pillars of the college’s current strategic plan.
UDL is based on cognitive neuroscience and is intended to guide the development of flexible learning environments that can accommodate individual learning differences.
The approach was developed at the N.C. State University College of Design in the 1980s through collaboration of architects, product designers, engineers, authors and environmental design researchers.
Greensboro College provides a liberal arts education grounded in the traditions of the United Methodist Church and fosters the intellectual, social, and, spiritual development of all students while supporting their individual needs.
Founded in 1838 and located in downtown Greensboro, the college enrolls about 1,000 students from 29 states and territories, the District of Columbia, and seven foreign countries in its undergraduate liberal-arts program and six master’s degree programs. In addition to rigorous academics and a well-supported Honors program, the school features an 18-sport NCAA Division III athletic program and dozens of service and recreational opportunities.
