Greensboro College Streamwalk Clears Garbage from City Stream (5/5/2017)

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Ten Greensboro College students and two faculty members cleared 20 bags of debris from College Branch, the creek that runs along the campus’s eastern edge, during the recent annual Streamwalk.

Each spring as part of the city of Greensboro’s Adopt-A-Stream program, members of the college community take part in the clean-up. The city’s Water Resources Department provides bags and gloves.

The college reports to the city on the amount of debris cleared, and Calhoun Bond, professor of biology, also assesses water quality. Bond found water quality good, although he also found high levels of algae, primarily because of large amounts of oak pollen that had recently fallen.

Greensboro College provides a liberal arts education grounded in the traditions of the United Methodist Church and fosters the intellectual, social, and, spiritual development of all students while supporting their individual needs.
