Greensboro College Welcomes Arnold Henning as New Chief Financial Officer

Greensboro College is pleased to announce that Arnold Henning has been selected as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Henning assumed the role on June 1, 2024.

Henning’s work will be conducted remotely/virtually, and his first visit to Greensboro College will be in early August.

The appointment of a remote/virtual CFO at Greensboro College reflects the growing trend of fractional CEOs, wherein, colleges and other organizations leverage specialized expertise on a part-time or project basis. This addition and shift will bring cost-efficiency, strategic insights, and enhanced financial management to the college, which will lead to streamlined operations.

Henning holds both a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a master’s degree in finance from the University of Chicago.

Henning has more than 30 years of financial leadership excellence, most recently serving as the Interim/Transitional Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Designate at the University of Illinois – Springfield, where he was directly responsible for facilities, budget office, human resources, sponsored programs – post award, purchasing and procurement, campus police, and performing arts.

“Greensboro College is an exciting opportunity and challenge for me,” said Henning. I’m energized by the prospect of fresh challenges and the chance to continue serving the academic community in innovative ways. I see boundless potential for growth and transformation, and I can’t wait to dive in and make a meaningful impact at Greensboro College.”

Henning has also worked in financial leadership roles at two other universities as an interim/transitional leader after serving as CFO for Marian University in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois, YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee, United Way of Chicago, and Navistar International Corporation where he has developed financial strategies to improve performance, processes and procedures.

Henning replaces former CFO, Chris Elmore, who served Greensboro College for 14 years.

“After interviewing a number of candidates, we are pleased that Arnold Henning will fill this role for the college,” said Greensboro College President, Dr. Lawrence D. Czarda. “His education, long and deep experience in public and private higher education, large not for profit institutions and in the corporate sector will significantly benefit GC as we look to the future in challenging times.”

“I loved the GC Honors program and Greensboro College. I felt safe and a sense of genuine belonging at the college. I worked closely with my thesis advisor and professors who helped inspire me to define my path and passion of interest. That path has led me to my doctoral studies in Engineering Mechanics.”
